Part 2 Unlearning to Connect

    Vision Pillars Worship

Series For the first part of 2026, we will be focusing on the three foundational pillars that shape Hope United Methodist Church's identity and calling: Inclusion, Connection, and Creation. These aren't just aspirational words on a page—they're the DNA of who we are as a community and how we live out Christ's love in the world. Each pillar invites us deeper into the transformative work God is doing in and through us.

Sunday, May 3 | Connected Across Difference

What have we been taught to call unclean — that Creator has already made holy?

In Acts 10, the apostle Peter has a vision that crashes into everything he thought he knew. A blanket descends from the sky, filled with creatures he had been taught were off-limits. And God says: What I have made clean, do not call impure. Three times.

This Sunday we explore what it means to unlearn the scripts we inherited — about who belongs, who is safe, who is "other" — and what happens when we're willing to step across the lines we were taught to hold. We'll hear the story through the First Nations Version, a translation of scripture in the voice and style of Native storytelling traditions, and we'll ask together: Who are the Corneliuses in our community? And what might we still be learning to see?

Join us at Hope UMC as we continue our Connection series — and come ready to have your categories gently interrupted.
